Glass Manifestation - Issues and Solutions

With the use of full height glass in walls, partitions and doors, there is a greater risk of people walking into unmarked glass. If you have any glass that is not apparent, it must have manifestation window film applied to confirm with current regulations.

On 1 May 2004, a new regulation; Document M-Access To and Use of Buildings (2004), was issued.  It is a duty of care and states that there must be manifestation at two levels on the glass; between 850 mm and 1000 mm and between 1400 mm and 1600 mm from floor level. Our manifestation window film offers a quick, cost effective solution to the problem of accidental collision.

Provisions for glazing:

Glass entrance doors and glazed screens will meet the requirements of Part M if:
a. there is manifestation on the glass at two levels, 850mm to 1000mm and 1400mm to 1600mm above the floor. The manifestation must contrast visually with the background seen through glass, as seen from both directions, in all lighting conditions.
b. manifestation takes the form of a logo or sign at least 1500mm high (repeated if on a glazed screen), or a decorative feature such as broken lines or continuous bands, at least 50mm high.
c. glazed entrance doors adjacent to, or part of, a glazed screen, are clearly differentiated from the screen by a high-contrast strip at the top and both sides

.

Between the finished floor level and 1500mm (shoulder height) above that level in doors, and in side panels which fall within 300mm of either edge of the door.
Between the finished floor level and 800mm (waist height) above that level in the case of walls, partitions and windows.
It is important to note that any part of a glass pane affected must meet the requirements in its entirety and not just in the relevant section.
